Art adds to the aethestics of how a room / space can look. It can evoke emotions in an individual. Art can add excitement or be calming. It can complete a space, or it can overwhelm a space.

Art can be found in not only framed items, sculptural items, but in architectural details of a space itself.

Art is the jewelry of a space. It adds to the harmonious completion of a room. But ultimately that will depend on what type of art is chosen, art can also be shockingly distasteful and be very unharmonious.

Art as Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Art is the foundation of society. There is nothing on this planet made by man that doesn't start with some form of art. The car you drive, the clothes you wear, everything has an art base.

As far as visual arts, you get out of it what you put into it. Some people want something that looks good over a couch while others over-analize peoples work to make themselves feel important. sometimes art has no other function than to be appealing and look good. Other times it can tell you a story. It's subjective, and what you take away from it is personal whether you get it or not.

As for the people that do it that get's even more complicated because "artists" vary so much. They can be the Bob Ross, happy little tree, wanna be types to the kustom kulture, low brow set and each has it's good and bad points. Some do it to say look what I can do while others do it because we can. Some need to have stuff seen while others may never show a thing. That doesn't mean the work suffers from either end but one extreme to the other usually doesn't get along. But the one thing they all have in common is a love for art and that is what matters.

Art is everywhere, wether you realize it or not.

In my opinion, the basic purpose of art is to communicate; communicate ideas and feelings as well as informational concepts. Art functions for the human mind because we are visually oriented which means we love shapes and colors and patterns. The earliest example is with infants. They can't read but they see shape and color and movement. Lastly remember that when the internet was first up and running, it was a dark screen with lighter colored sentences. It wasn't until the images were incorperated that it took off in popularity.
