They were picked at first for the main population center, then they were picked for the geographic center of the state, then they were picked for the ideal area. Why, I don't know. As for travel, I don't think so. If somebody lives in Fairbanks, look how far they would have to travel to get to Juneau. Or Spokane to Olympia. Or Jackson to Cheyenne. Or even Miami to Talahasse.

I THINK MOST WAS FOR THE TRAVEL. I KNOW OURS HAS MOVED 3 TIMES. ALSO MOST CAPITALS ARE NOT IN THEIR LARGEST CITIES.
