What's being released next month are :
Star Wars
Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back
Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi
These are the movies as they were shown in theatres when ORIGINALLY released in their respective years (1977, 1980, and 1983). Supposedly nothing has been changed on these DVDs. Note above I wrote just Star Wars because the movie was released as just Star Wars. It had Ep. IV A New Hope added after it was re-released in theatres back in 1979 I believe it was.
What you bought back in 2005 on DVD was the "Special Edition" addition to the first "Special Edition" that was released in 1999 or 2000 (on VHS only). I'm a Star Wars fan, but not a date fanatic or stickler.
The "Special Edition" had scene changes here-and-there, along with added things. The biggest change was the Greedo shooting first and then Han shooting Greedo. If you know the original, Han blasts Greedo without Greedo even taking a shot.
Anyway, hope this answers your question. It's just a way for fans to make George Lucas even more rich.

My cousin works in post-production sound in Hollywood and he got a hold of some Laserdiscs of the original movies. These were the highest quality copies of the original trilogy available. Using some fancy equipment, he made himself DVD's of the original movies, with his own animated chapters and special features. He's one of those die-hard fans.

Just like with Disney movies, they cycle the release for sale of a movie. Disney calls it "Coming of the Disney Vault"
I bought the one you are talking about, this one is just the same thing just re-released to build more capitol. Or, for some, to get rid of the one they bought 3 years ago and buy the NEWEST one. I guess that would be a fanatic.
Hope this helps.

Promotion companies use the word "original" just to make you think it has something special going for it and it is the best that ever was. You no doubt have the original trilogy. They just want you buy another set. It is called marketing, marketing, marketing.

Yeah, they're getting out of hand with this crap.
That's why I am SO glad I kept the original VHS copies of New Hope, Empire, and Return of the Jedi BEFORE all the f*cking changes were made.

You bought the almost, but not really original. LOL They are just trying to make more money by releasing it again, don't sweat it. If you want the new one, just sell your old set on ebay.
