Go to the Registrar of Births, Deaths and Marriages in the Metropolitan area where you were born. Complete an application form and pay the fee of £7.00. The certificate is yours. Some Local Authorities let you do it online or let you download the application form. Type in the name of your Council followed by .gov.uk and look for 'Births' For example if it was Bolton you'd type in www.bolton.gov.uk for Salford www.salford.gov.uk then you can apply. This allows you to complete the form by typing it so that it is neater and more accurate. There are two types of certificate available, long and short depending on what you need it for. Short has necessary details only the long has details of parents also.

You need to call the state and city you were born in and tell them you need a new birth certificate. I think you have to send in some money before they send your b-certificate to you. They may also ask you about your social security number.

I don't know about the UK, but my general suggestion would be to contact the hospital you were born in.
