I agree, give it the one year, if you can. It takes time. You are NOT the only one feeling this way. Try to find people that are far from home too.

well,
maybe you should try attending a college closer to home. Can you transfer?
If you're closer to home, you can drive back sometimes or have your family visit you. It's also cool 'cause if you happen to get into a jam where you really need moral support and some cash or whatever else, your family and friends will be there to help you out.
I went to Quebec for a month, to study french, and I wasn't very homesick at all 'cause I was havin problems at home so I needed to get away. But my sister missed me a lot, and I missed my sister. So it was cool while I was there for a little over a month but I was glad to come back, having had some time to be on my own for a while and make friends and stuff.
I'm still in contact with the friends I made (some of 'em) and we're planning some fun summer trips together so...
You can still keep the friends you made if you decide to leave, just stay in contact with 'em.
Besides, college (the homework part) sucks anyway and it doesn't matter where you're at for that part. Wherever you're at, you wanna be comfortable, you don't want any additional stressors you know what I mean?
If you just started though, like now, then wait for a semester to finish (at least one) and then think about it. It'll be easier to transfer that way too. If you've been there for a few semesters already then seriously think about it.

That's an issue to face for every student attending an out-of-state college. Just try to focus on why you're there and not what you left behind. Perhaps a part-time job might help you a bit. You stated you might go home and start over...........is there a college close to your home town? If not - then if you go out-of-state again you'll be facing the same issue again. Anyone going to college, should have the same purpose; learn as much as you can and then begin your career. Many times that career is not in your home town but these are just sacrifices we all take in order to make a better future for ourselves. You may also might try speaking with a counselor about these feelings and maybe they could help you in some way.

When I started college I moved 3hrs from family and friends...I only knew one person that didn't even attend school. I felt the same way...everybody does even if its an hour away. Its normal.
You just need to stay involved, make new friends and always remember your family and friends are just a phone call away. It will pass when you get start getting comfortable in your new enviroment. College is the time of your life don't let it pass you by or give up on it. You will learn so many things about yourself and the world that its worth a little homesickness.

Tough it out. You will be glad you did. I was eightteen and in the Air Force stationed in Germany for two years. It was bad for a while but the experience is what you make it. Do not sit in your room all the time. Get out and mingle with other freshmen that share the same interests. Start a Yahoo group involving some kind of campus hobby and meet regularly with the group.

How long have you been there? It took me 6 months before I started getting over home sickness; then, another 6 months to really get immersed in the college environment.
I would say to give it a year. If you do not like it after this year is over, then think about the transfer. Otherwise, visit home often, and keep working at making new friendships.

You are definitely on the right track to stay involved and meet new people. Of course you are going to miss your family and friends back home, but they will still be there when you go home for holidays and vacations. Just keep in touch with them (phone, email, etc) and it may even help to invite someone up for a long weekend. The real challenge is just going to be NOT to give up. I was homesick in college too and just when I was about to go back to "the old me" I started having fun and learning about the "new me" (me without the stigma of 'home). I ended up having a blast at college. I still kept friends and family from home in my life, but I just added new experiences to that too. Enjoy!

You just started, you have to give it time and get into a new routine. Don't go back home now or you will do that the rest of your life. I only knew 2 people when I started but by the end of the year, I had so many friends and by the time you graduate, you will wonder why you ever thought of going home. Please give it at least a year.

I think everyone goes thru this. People all around youprobably feel the same way. Just continue meeting paople and keep in touch with your friends from home. The sad feeling will go away and soon enough you will be visiting home for Christmas. Just imagine how excited eveyone will be to see you! Keep your head up!

I'm sorry to hear that! I ended up going to a college nearby my home and commute everyday, and I must say i feel bad that I missed out on the dorm life experience. Keep your chin up, it'll get better.
If not, at least make it thru the semester then you will have some college credit and can transfer. you'll know how you feel by that time
