I have an older muscle car with rust along the rear quarters and was wondering if anybody has ever had theirs replaced and what it costs.

Cost will vary widely. Most body shops will you free estimates.I would take it to several and get their opinion. If you really like your car and want to keep it, don't just cover up the rust, have it repaired correctly. Good Luck!

The cost on this will vary, depending on how good of a job you want. The cheap way would be to sand away as much rust as possible, clean it out, then fill and contour with Bondo (body putty/filler), then primer and paint. The most long lasting repair would be to cut away all bad metal and replace it with new metal, weld into place, grind all welds smooth, sand, primer and repaint. I'm simplifying it a bit, but that's basically the idea.
Cost? for the cheap route, $200-300 if you do the work mostly yourself, more if you have it done...then add the cost of the paint job to that....but the repair won't last all that long and you likely won't like the results. For the "cut and weld" route, to have a pro do it I'd estimate from $1500-2000 up depending on what exactly needs done and whether you are going to repaint the whole car or not (I'd recommend it...it's hard to match paint exactly). I had some minor work done on my Vette and then had it reshot in the original color...total cost was around $2800. But it looks nice!

Hope this helped a little.

Body shops will range literally thousands of dollars on the cost of this job. Make sure they cut and replace. Not just fill with bondo.
