I mean personal financial aid, seems that some want more than what they had, but is that fair to America. Helping them would be fine but to compensate each one with more than what they had, why not help them to get to where they were and then they can handle it from there. We shouldn't be so relient on the Govt. to assists us all the time, a boost would help but then responsibility should be taken into effect by the individual. Why rebuild a city below sea level, when that was a factor in the destruction of it?

With the first two answers, I agree, it has been a year and it's time to let go and take responsibility.

Listen here is how I feel about it:

Say 10 ppl are a victim of some tragedy.
Then say 1000 ppl donate 1 billion dollars to help those ppl.
That money was DONATED FOR THOSE PPL therefore ALL of it should go to those ppl.

If that gives them more than they had or whatever then so be it. That money was a gift.

You don't hear anybody raising cane about the millions of dollars that were given to 911 widows. Seriously those familes got millions from a donation fund.

I understand that argument about tax dollars but you don't know what it is like to lose eveything. My mother lost her home in 1999 to hurricane Floyd. She received ZERO from Fema because there are a bunch of glitches to that you don't know about.

It took her two years to rebuild her house and I watched it age her.... at least taking 5 years off her life from stress.

Okay who are you people Satan? First of all the reason the levees broke in the first place was the governments fault because of poor levee designing. Secondly they treated them like dogs not even as good as dogs for 5 days after the storm hit ( little to no food, water,or aid for those sick and dying). Third many people lost all they had (poor or not it was all they had) and love ones as well. Forth many of them haven't received not one cent from FEMA toward rebuilding their lives in New Orleans. And you want them to just pull themselves up by their boot straps. What about compensation for all of the trauma caused by being displaced and treated so horribly right after the storm? People who sue for a slip and fall in the grocery store get more than these people got. Come on where is your compassion?

Give them Bush, are many who would want to ask him, why help come after the floods. It will take more then a year to rebuilt. Most might not even come back. What they would want the most are jobs, but where can they find them when most people aren’t back yet to business and most businesses don’t have enough money to repair their own damages on the buildings. Schools from 40000 are only 22000 now.

seems to me that there needs to be a cutoff point soon otherwise people will be looking for handouts for years to come. it's quite stupid really to rebuild the city below sea level again since it will probably happen again in the future. I'm sure that people clamoring about the cities history and soul all say that it shouldn't be left to die. but at the same time, this will happen again. and history has shown repeatedly that man cannot stop mother nature.

Why are people less compassionate with Katrina victims?
I mean everybody is stating how they are tired of hearing about it, that those people ask too much and that enough is enough.
How come I never heard that for 9/11 victims? Nobody ever said we talked about it too much, you know why? Because it was an attack to all Americans, so once we feel personally involved, we can't get enough of it uh?
Shame! those people are americans too and they've lost everything and I think they deserve as much as what the government can give them, until that city is rebuilt properly!

it relatively is a perplexing one. As I come from the united kingdom, i individually don't have a clue (yet could have long previous for FEMA as my first decision). the only ingredient i ought to represent is Goggle on the word "hurricane Katrina help contributors"

The federal Government has supported these people a year. I think that is more than enough compensation.

They have gotten enough help, they need to now become self-sufficient. Thank Goodness for Mayor Bill White in houston, he is sending them a message that we arent going to coddle them much longer!!!!
