You have to use logic here. Of course it is important for politicians to weigh the opinions of the voting public in every action they make. If they did not, they would lose and not be politicians anymore.
The voting public needs to make themselves aware of where their candidate stands on all issues and needs to hold their elected officials accountable to campaign promises. Voters need to really study their candidates and make informed choices. All too frequently I encounter people who tout a certain candidate, but when I ask about specific issues, they can only guess what they believe the politician SHOULD vote for.
If you don't like what politicians are doing, find out all about the issues and campaign in your neighborhoods and even on the Internet to tell people about it. Let your voice be heard. If your message is supported by evidence people will listen. This is America; We don't gripe about what someone else is doing, we make changes. Anything else is unpatriotic.

If you are referring to Bush, it appears that he is pursuing his job without concern for his popularity.

If on the other hand you are referring to any elected democrat I believe the strategy is; wet finger, hold in the wind and then go that way. A lot like the Clinton years.

These guys will do anything, and I mean anything for a vote, just ask them, they will promise you ANYTHING if you vote for them. But guess what, it is too late, they have already sold themselves to the highest bidder, that is how they got elected in the first place.

good call, Unfortunately people keep voting for the weak candidates. But look to your local govt. The hard working men and women in your county/town/city are usually goo hard working folks. That's why they never go farther than that.

yes if it directly influences any major campaign contributors. The polls test is implemented if the question has no influence on a major campaign contributor.
