I'm Catholic, and we are all about those three things. The Rosary and memorized prayers are a form of meditation, self-examination of course is one of the biggies when it comes to reconciliation (confession), and of course prayer (just the Dear God kind) is our own comfort usually said after making peace through memorized prayer.

There are some similarities but overall they are different. Self-examination and meditation revolve around only yourself. Prayer is more of a communication between you and God. The similarities include asking God to assist with self-examination so that you can confess and repent of all your sin. Meditation, in the form of a quiet time of peace, is an important part of prayer as well. In these quiet times of prayer is when you can truely open your heart to God and hear His voice. Even Jesus is shown more that once going off alone to pray.

Yeah the correlation is you've got too much time on your hands. If you have peace of mind and healthy self esteem "constant" self examination is not necessary. Prayer is the same as meditation unless you believe in a higher power. People do what they need to find peace of mind, but so much introspection is ultimatly self indulgent and serves noone. When you do your best in life to do the right thing, help others, respect yourself and others, prayer and self examination become less and less necessary. At least thats how it works for me.

Self-exam and meditation are pretty a lot a similar difficulty. once you research your intentions and moves you're meditating on what you don't love about your self and what God needs to regulate in you. Meditation must be broader like meditating on the be conscious and the that technique of the be conscious. Prayer is calling for good and reality from God that's referring to to wanting to reform and regenerate.

No. These are three different mental processes that set up very different brain wave patterns. Also, their purposes/goals are different, the processes are different, and the results are different. In my experience, the folks who claim to pray a lot never take time for self-examination, except when they're trying to get the buckshot out of their skin. ;-)
