I am reading The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova and really like it. Could someone suggest some more?

Well as many said Anne Rice has a good series, read one or two but couldn't get into the rest of them.
Now Laurell K. Hamilton has a series called Anita Blake Vampire Hunter, books 1 - 9 are awesome the rest aren't so good (theres 13 I think).
MaryJanice Davidson writes a series called Undead... the first 2 are great the rest are so-so.
The Sonja Blue Collection by Nancy A. Collins is sooo good.
Charlaine Harris has the Southern Vampires Series - very good.
Katie MacAlister has 2 series that are worth reading: Aisling Grey Guardian Novels and A Vampire Series which I can't remember the name too but is easy to find in Amazon.
Kelley Armstrong has a good series called Women of the Otherworld - here you get werewolves, vampires, witches, ghosts etc. - it's awesome.
Kim Harrison also has a series whose main character is a witch but one of her partners is a living vampire (she will turn into a full one when she dies) and her other partner is a guy named Jenks who's a pixie and lethal, you'll find werewolves and such also in the book--- highly recommended.
Linsay Sands also has a vampire series... very relaxed and fresh, more like a romance than anything else, not my favorite but it isn't bad.
Carrie Vaughn writes a series about a werewolf - theres only 2 books out - but as with most books on werewolves there is always the vampire community present.
Thats all I can think of for now... I know there is many more (I am a book freak) but can't remember right now. Most of these books you can look them up in amazon and find more that are alike. I was just recently recommended the Dresden Files by Jim Butcher, haven't read it but they told me it was great. So I extend my recommendation to you.

PS: If you think about buying books online, amazon and books-a-million websites offer free shipping when you buy $25 or more. Books-a-million tends to be a couple of cents cheaper, but Amazon offers more things you can buy beside the books. Once you start reading about one type of supernaturals (vampires) you end up getting caught up in all the others... good reading!

Well i guess it would depend on what your style is. I like Anne Rice. The vampire chronicles but, if your looking for something a little less sultry and erotic ( ish) there is always John Carpenters stuff. Its late and I can't think of any titles off the top of my head. Salams Lot by Stephen King is pretty decent as well. Hope that helps you. Oh and there is Bram Stokers Dracula. I have tried and failed at reading that one.... a few times! Just couldn't get into it. Maybe you will have more patience then I did! LOL!

Depends on if you want drama period or drama with a little love & romance thrown in for good measure? Humor? Katie MacAlister has some cute vampire books out: Sex, Lies & Vampires, Even Vampires Get the Blues, Sex and the Single Vampire.....humorous, obviously sexual and drama. Fun books.

Christine Feehan writes about the Carpathians (aka vampires, but they say they're not). She has quite the series on these creatures (17 and counting actually): Dark Prince, Dark Melody, Dark Symphony, Dark Guardian (gives you an idea anyway).

i've read so many over the years, i can't even name them all.

The Anne Rice books are very good, especially Interview with a Vampire. That ones the best. I eventually got tired of them though and didn't finish the series.

I also have some books of vampire short stories.
• Vampire Slayers
• Vampires, Wine and Roses
• Weird Vampire Tales

And you have to read Dracula.

check out any books by brian lumley. I copied this discription from amazon for one of his books: (bloodwars - the first book of a vampire trillogy). I have read many of his books and I love them.

From Publishers Weekly
Vampires, sons borns of mortals, thralls, crones, trogs, the undead, shape-shifters, leeches, hags, flyers, cartilage creatures--all are characters in this diverting if drawn-out tale of the twin sons of Harry Keough. The late Keough (previously seen in Nec ro scope and four other outings), a telepathic vampire hunter able to speak with the dead, has passed the torch to his unwitting sons, Nestor and Nathan, who not only think their father was a humble gypsy but also mistakenly believe that all the vampires in the world were destroyed long ago. The young men--one seemingly simple and innocent, the other strong and fiercely intelligent--are separated when their settlement on Sunside is attacked by vampire warriors from Starside known as Wamphyri. As their personalities undergo drastic transformations and Keough's legacy reemerges in new and very strange surroundings, each must struggle to retain his identity as evil forces threaten. Naturally, one twin proves more successful than the other. While the brothers' travails are somewhat compelling, as is the course of their love for the same woman, it is the villains here--Wratha, the Unrisen and Maglore of Runemanse--who are bound to engage readers most.
