You cannot single out politicians. After all they are made out of our own stock. For obvious reasons they should have more of basic emotions of power, lust, greed, muscle, graft, instincts of survival, passion, competitive spirit, etc to stay there and be corrupt. The systems of politics have been intended for softer and idealistically orientated persons in the past, may be long before Machiavellian days. The present day politicians can’t be expected to survive on water like monks or other do-gooders. In that latter case they will be ejected from their positions the very next day. They are entitled to be in politics only when they are ready to do the business of governance or legislation on materialistic ways, very mundane, dealing with money and power that are the sources of corruption.

I fancy a solution to make the world, less corrupt, if not corrupt free. Why not we make politics a corporate business, like any other businesses pure and simple, funded by people through shares. Let all the secretaries, ministers, governors etc in the executive branch be the directors on some remuneration of salary and can be fired on any day. Let the shareholders be the people. I think we can try that experiment stretching the corporate concept a bit far like forward or is it backward integration in Mergers and Acquisitions of business world.

Everybody wants you to do something for them if you are a politician. Unfortunately our system has grown up so that people need a LOT of money to get elected and that makes them subject to begging for funds and then having to do favors for the people who provided the funds. In Congress the term for Representatives is only 2 years so they have to start running for their election after the next even before winning their next one. Whenever presented with the opportunity to end this system (like by funding campaigns from the treasury, or requiring broadcasters just to provide free airtime) these proposals are always shot down because they step on somebodys toes. This is why so many laws benefit special interests without regard to screwing the general public. Its not a small matter--easing environmental regulations does make it more profitable for business, no doubt about that, but it also puts more dangerous chemicals in the environment so the general public gets sick and their kids are born with birth defects.

Nothing you said can be proven in any way. Youre making a generalization based on things youve heard about a handfull of people that happen to be in office. By and large the percentages for politics to other fields is much smaller. In the future I would preferr if you just said "I think all politicians are corrupt".

I think most politicians start out with good intentions but get corrupted along the way. The are pushed by people who want them to vote a certain way and learn from other politicians. I don't think I'd be a good politician because I'd be easily trusting to other politicians who would corrupt me in ways.

Money talks, the more money they can get the more corrupt they will be. They don't care who they are hurting with all their broken promises, its not going to effect them they live in million dollar homes, drive the most expensive cars, and have people kissing their butts to make them look better, and why would it effect them? They've never had to struggle to make ends meet everything has been handed to them on a silver platter.

I disagree with the basic premise. The majority of politicians are honest. Often the weight of necessity is too great for idealism. It takes a great leader to get round the obstacles that reality places in his/her path . There aren't many great leaders.

It's the type of people politics attracts. The late Douglas Adams said no-one who can get power should be allowed to wield it. How right he was.

Because they're power mad and think the power they have gives them the God-given right to just take what they want, no matter who they have to step on to get it! Others just seek glory and will go all out for it with ruthless intent. Funny really ......... they're supposed to represent us!! Mmmmm - say no more!

They say the quickest way to get rich is to run for congress. Every single one of them becomes a millionaire once they're there. I especially dislike the ones that forget they work for US- not themselves. Such arrogance!
Have a great day!!!
