This is for anyone who has it or experienced the blunt end of it. Remember driving is a privelage not a right. There have been stories of people coming out with baseball bats beating people and people shooting each other. For me, i just chill when someone cuts me off or i have to wait in long line of traffic. Why vent on something that is out of your control?

Great! That's the ideal attitude. If everyone were like you, road rage would not exist. You are clearly a peace-lover and I would like to consider myself to be of a similar nature.

Having taught advanced driving to the Police for 10 years, I have witnessed the results of these out of control emotional types on many occasions. The results can be very serious, but the self-induced increase in stress is just not worth the bother. Ultimately you are taking hours, days or weeks off your life expectancy.

(It is perhaps interesting to consider if these people would behave in a similar manner when walking in a crowded environment, where holding doors open for people still happens without a fuss).

Well, sometimes you just need to vent. You shouldn't keep all that anger bottled up inside. Venting helps get it out.

I get upset when someone cuts me off, especially when there's lots of room behind me and I'm driving faster then the posted limit. Couldn't they wait just 2 more seconds?

I also get upset and need to vent when someone gets mad and honks at me for something that they did. And then try to get back at me.

I was once coming off the highway. I checked everything and had my blinker on before I started merging. As I was partway through my merge, someone from the left lane decided to move into the right lane where I was already headed. I swerved back to the right while honking at him. Once he passed, I merged back into the traffic behind him and did a quick lane change to the left. That driver then promptly cut me off in the left lane and stopped his car in the middle of the road. He didn't budge until I honked at him. He did this twice! I couldn't go anywhere because I was trying to make my way into the turning lane so I could get to work. When I got to the turning lane, we both caught the red light and were side by side and he was trying to get me to roll my passenger window down so that he could yell at me even though I didn't do anything wrong.

Things like this are not necessary in the least bit, and are extremely dangerous. My younger brother was in the car with me at the time as well. I was extremely pissed off and this I vented about. But not to the other driver!

Road rage is just a result of general discourtesy.
All people want to do at the end of the workday is go home. Especially if you've had a bad day.
Then someone gets rude while you are trying to just go home.
And someone's switch gets flipped and off on a rage they go.
I've learned to enjoy my time alone in the car and put on some tunes for my ride home. Because once I get home, I have other responsibilities. My car has become my sanctuary, so I don't mind when people cut me off or slow down in front of me or whatever.

I know a woman who was put in the hospital because she cut in front of someone on the freeway, that was so stupid and I think the guy who done it is charged with attemped murder, all for something that could have been avoided. I let the people cut in front of me, I don't have the time to waste of jumping out of my car and comfronting them, "besides I scared". People do some crazy thing, I would never stop and stick my head in someone's else's car, I would just be asking for a butt whipping or an early grave.

Some people get pissed off when the slightest thing goes wrong. Even if some jerk cuts you off or doesn't let you merge into a lane, I find it's best to just go with the flow. Picking fights with people over such stupid things just makes you end up looking like a total psychotic jerk even if the other person is at fault.

I totally agree with you that it's pointless to become violent over such stupid things. Life is too short to blow up at every little thing that comes your way.

When someone cuts me off, I laugh at them. I try to imagine how they are going to explain to the cop that pulls him over what the big hurry is. I also hope that the idiot that drives like a maniac doesn't kill anyone. Beats revenge anyday!

I will try to remember this when people here are speeding in the school zone and passing buses as fast as they can before the driver turns on the flashing lights.

people are going to be people. Just forget it, I know that you can't control how other people drive, but yes that doesn't give them an excuse to own the road. I think it's just the teenagers who think this way.

I agree. When people are in such a rush especially here in NY, it's better to arrive late than to get killed and not show up at all.
