To say that Christopher Columbus was a devil or a saint would subject him to judgment of a people that might share the same value system as him or the same sense of right or wrong. You have to see him in a neutral light and not judge his action but learn about them and their consequences, which might or as I believe were not so beneficial to the native people.
As for raping the native women, I would like to see the primary source that came from because I highly doubt he or any one else that was there documented such events.

LOL Rae, the Indians (native Americans) discovered that those sticks that Columbus's men were carrying hur like the dickens when they made fire. they discovered that the blankets made them sick and die. that the Europeans had a sickness that made them crave Gold and Silver. that the Europeans had NO respect for the Earth, and seemed to feel that the Earth was theirs for the taking rather than something to be loved and tenderly cared for. Website references.
Much confusion is encountered when trying to accurately research Columbus and his activities, particularly with the Tianos of Hispaniola. If one accepts that King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella were hungry for new world "gold" then Columbus acting on their behalf was fully capable of committing the atrocities listed.

Columbus is not regarded by anyone as a saint. I would caution you that there are a great many historical myths out there that are spawned not by events by modern political agendas.

I am wondering if maybe you read something about his "raping" the people in terms of enslaving and killing some of them. I have not read anything before about his personally raping anyone, but he did commit crimes that were considered crimes even back then.

i heard that the catholic church wanted to proclaim him a saint but then they changed their mind because a lot of evidence about his cruelty and maybe even murders came out. but the proofs were mostly about cruelty against other europeans, while in europe or on his ships.
