nail varnish remover?

Painting around a window is tricky. You could just paint it all sloppily now and then spend a few hours scraping paint off the glass later, but why not do a professional job the first time?

Steps:
1. Tape over or remove any hardware that should not be painted such as catches, hinges, etc.

2. Clean the glass before you paint to keep dust and grime from getting into the paint.

3. Tape off the window, leaving a small gap between the frame and the glass. You want a tiny bit of paint to seal that join between the two.

4. Paint double-hung windows starting with the lower sash on the outside and the upper sash on the inside. Paint a casement window while it's open.

5. Begin with the horizontal cross-pieces (called muntins), then do the top and bottom horizontal pieces.

6. Now paint the vertical cross-pieces, if there are any.

7. Paint the top, bottom and sides, in that order, working from the center outward.

8. Finish with the window molding.

9. Peel the tape off the glass when the paint is nearly dry to the touch, but don't wait until it's completely dry. It may peel the paint up with it if it's too dry.

10. Remove any accidental drips on the glass with a paint scraper.

Tips:
Use an angled brush to paint the muntins for easier paint application.

Make sure that you are able to slide a window before the paint dries in the tracks.

a razor blade or scraper is the only way i know of as the glue changes characteristics when exposed to the sun for an extended period.I left masking tape on for a month because of laziness and then had to use a scraper as all the solvents and home remedies recommended did not help, try the suggestions posted and let us know which worked.goodluck

try WD-40. The aerosol solvent along with the oil lubricant will soften and remove the glue from the tape. Follow this with some ammonia or windex to clean off the WD-40.

WD40 is also good for removing bugs off your car windshield.

any sort of solvent will do. petrol applied sparingly until it becomes soft and rub off. You do not say wether it is on the glass or woodwork
if on the glass, same treatment then a razor.
If the tape residue is sitting on a wood type UPVC window take care,! vigorous rubbing can take off the wood grain printing.

not a direct answer but next time maybe try lo-tack or Keen-edge masking tape...they are a world better than the stuff you buy in a DIY chain store.

carefully warm the tape with a blow dryer and peel back gently and if paint comes off with tape then sand to smooth and touch up.

Rub a little mayo on it and let it sit for a while. It should come right off after it softens up

Try a product called Goo-Gone..takes off gum, tar, glue, etc. Hopefully you will be able to just scrape it off easily after applying.
