Depends on the Bible. There are many churches and groups that give away Bibles. Many publishers that make inexpensive Bibles. But also some very fancy Bibles that can cost a lot. There is one for everyone's budget - so no excuse for not having one.
Most ever paid for a Bible:$350,000 by a Dr. Vollbehr for a Guttenberg Bible printed in 1501. Highest price ever paid for a single book.
So in that case, the Bible is the most expensive book.

It may not be the most expensive book but it is apparently the most stolen book. I guess its all those ones taken from hotel rooms.

Only if you follow it! What is it, 10% you're supposed to tithe? Also if you add up the cost of some of the wars fought over it, blood shed and what not, it's caused quite a bit of expense, right or wrong.

If they were expensive I certainly wouldn't have 16+ unused Bibles laying around my house like I do now

No, it's not expensive at all, unless you want a really nice one, and those aren't so expensive at all. There a lot of free ones, because everyone has a chance to learn from it.
