townhouse usually more than one story

wiki sez:

" * In condominium townhouses, the purchaser owns only the interior, while the building itself is owned by a condominium corporation. The corporation is jointly owned by all the owners, and charges them fees for general maintenance and major repairs.
* Freehold townhouses are exclusively owned, without any condominium aspects.

"Stacked townhouses" have multiple units vertically (typically two), normally each with its own private entrance from the street."

Generally, an apartment/condo is on a single level, and most likely does not have a private entrance.

Townhouses are generally more than one floor, with a private entrance, and possible a small yard. Townhouses are built in rows, apartments are large single buildings with individual units contained inside.
A Town house could also have an attached garage, where an apartment a garage would be separate, if there are any available at all.
