Cheaters are sociiopaths and get their highs from "getting away with things." They lie about things so stupid that lies aren't even necessary.
Getting away with lies makes them feel superior, and even when busted they still maintain their lie because they honestly think they are fooling everyone.
Sort of like how Michael Jackson claims he only had two nose jobs and his skin is light because of vitiligo. EVERYONE knows he is lying, but he still maintains the facade and almost certainly thinks that people believe him.
Sociopaths are sick people who are not capale of normal interpersonal relationships (sexual or platonic), and they only hurt the people in their lives. Stay away.

I think it is called self-preservation. People lie about all kinds of things to save face and to avoid embarrassment. Sometimes lying becomes a habit with some people, which is quite common with people who cheat. The "I didn't do it" lie is probably the most common one.

because they are ashamed that they hurt that other person.. that is one reason why they do it.. They also just don't give a flying fart.. those people are the people you stray away from... They are also trying to have there cake and eatin it to... Sometimes it's just a mistake and they are trying to forget about it...My mother always told me that if you lie you will cheat and steal.... So remember this... if he has lied to you once he will do it again...

Because they think you are a fool. You're obviously stupid and they despise you for believing their lies. Especially if it's gone on for a while and they've got away with it. This is probably the thrill, by the way. It's exciting. As one colleague told me it was the most exciting thing she'd ever done.
Couldn't believe it. My exhusband cheated on me and the pain was surreal.

I think its human instinct to just lie, i think its an automatic response because admiting it means that you will have to face up to the consequences and people that chest are hardly brave to do something like that

They might be so ashamed that they actually committed the act in the first place that they're lying to themselves. I think this is where the advice 'be true to yourself' originates. Because if you're not true to yourself, you can get yourself into all kinds of trouble.

They cant face reality when it hits them in the face and they try not to look bad so they continue to lie.

Because some people are compulsive liars and actually believe the lies they tell. This could be one reason.
