Divide Y in X to get D (X / Y = D)

So, if you use 10 sheets of paper per day and there are 50 sheets per package, you divide your consumption into what the package contains. The result is 5. So in 5 days you will have used 50 sheets.

substitute real #'s to understand the ? better. this is confusing cuz u have to figure out how many Sheets u use, and turn it into Packages.

i order paper every 5 days.
paper comes in 100 per packet
we use 50 sheets per day.

in a work week of 5 days, u use 50 sheets/day * 5 days = 250 sheets a week. if a package is 100 sheets, u need to order 2.5 packets per week.

so the formula would be D*Y/X

Y times X times D

D divided by (X divided by Y).

The parentheses mean you have to divide that first. That'll give you the number of sheets you go through each day.
Then doing the first part will let you know how many packs you need to order.

To check it and see if it makes sense, just plug in some numbers.

right. i always make up numbers for these sorts of equations, figure them out, then make up different numbers to make sure it works.
lets say X=100 and Y=20.
100/20 = 5 so it takes 5 days to get through 1 packet.
umm.. ok
no.
that's useless.

20/100 = 0.2
so you get through 0.2 of a packet each day, right?

in this eg., it would be one packet every 5 days,
so let's say D=5 (make it easy)
so 0.2*5=1
so it's Y/X *D.
i think.

so say it's Y=25, X=5, D=3
Y/X *D
=25/5 *3
= 5 * 3
= 15.

and that's right because each day you go through 5 packs and you've been through 3 day's worth.

ans: Y/X*D
