Although I was a democrat in college... and vocally so... I never got over the ultra-left socialist inclination that the faculty had. I got to seve on a dean search committee and a chancellor search committee. The guys with more moderate or conservative views were bashed by the liberal profs on the committee.
How can we call it education when it has such a leftist view it is more like brainwashing?

Shiraz on a Roll! Hold the buttah...
Your libertarian stance is obviously not completely out of tune with leftist thought, after all, you want to be liberated from government involvement except when absolutely necessary, and liberalism takes that up another notch to liberate all people from all responsibility (version 2006). But left wing indoctrination is a poor substitute for common sense, absolutely. Self-management is completely ignored in leftist policy (whatever policy exists from the left, that is). Accountability, self-sustinence, self-determination, all foreign concepts to the leftist, especially in the U.S.
However, Thomas Paine's exhortations for common sense that helped frame the first Americans' understanding of what this nation shall be and can be have fallen on deaf ears of late. The common is so diverse, so poorly educated, so intolerant of one another, that the collective sense is severely fractured, and may not exist at all.
When an overriding and original culture is so overwhelmed by external political and cultural influence that the character of the common becomes overwhelming ambiguous, the common sense that results from the common is sure to suffer and disappear.
We forget what it is to be American, and only remember what it is to be ME. That is a dangerous road, sure to end in national destruction and even more severe loss to the individual (like DEATH or something). Rather than unite Americans behind a common cause against a common enemy, EVERY FACET OF AMERICAN POLITICAL LIFE is seeking to defame and denounce every other facet. It is a melee, and one where the nation suffers most, and its future becomes imperiled.
Americans have lost a sense of national character. When it happened, who knows, but there is no pride in being American in many sectors of society, particularly in newly arrived or young Americans. Rather than even a pulse of nationalist zeal, we are more concerned with the 'flavah' of our myspace.com site, or tattoos that we feel make us more unique (while on the inside, we're still the sheep the media craves).
I am sick of ALL indoctrination that does not place the national interest and security first (at this time). We are at war, our petty differences can be settled later, but must be buried now, for the preservation of the common good and the common sense.

I'm not even going to try to dispute you on this one, Shiraz. When I first came on here (all of about a week ago), I really thought this forum was about getting answers; how silly. Day after day you've posted these incessant tirades, screaming to the world how liberals are wrong and conservatives are right. It's stale. The only thing you've managed to do in all of this is strengthen the convictions of those on both sides. Is that all you were hoping for? Well, that sounds like a great idea - you stand on the right , I stand on the left, and nothing changes.

Watch Penn & Teller's B.S. - on "College" it will really give some perspective, it highlights the Liberal indoctrination of college students and how it has gotten so extremely left wing dominated it has actually suppressed free thinking.

I am more sick of the Iraq war and Katrina. If Libertarians had their way the residents of new orleans would have all drowned if they couldn't afford to evacuate themselves.
