We have a crimson queen. It gets only a couple hours of sun and bright shade the rest of the time. It is about 10 years old and is doing great.

Most Japanese maples will take a little sun but they do better in dappled shade or partial shade.

We have 14 Japanese maples and only one is out in the open between the garage and the house. It gets late morning sun and early afternoon sun. It has done well but the extra hot summer is causing it some trouble this year.

Japanese maples do not do well in sun at all. From 9-6 is WAY too much sun. Any afternoon sun is the worst, from about 11am on. Some morning sun is ok but as little as possible is the best. Especially in NC.

Japanese Maples have shallow roots systems, so you are going to be watering a lot if you planted it in the full sun location. They do better if you planted it in the semi-shade, especially this kind. Strong sun will scorch the leaves and it'll eventually die. You need to protect from it. If you must plant it in the full sun, never let the leaves to get wet. It'll burns it.

I planted one in full sun near the pool and it died, so it probably shouldn't be in full sun all day. Most plants can sun burn in a way and it makes there leaves get lighter.

It would not do well at all planted in full sun in your area. I'm sure it would die. It needs partiel to full shade
