I had shingles in my groin area. It was a very painful two weeks of my life. Don't believe anyone that tells you that you can only catch it once tho as I had it twice, both times all I got from the Dr was painkillers and a do-nut cushion to sit on. I hope your not in too much pain. take care and have plenty nice hot baths.

Most people who suffer from shingles are in their 5th+ decades of life, but I have seen 14 year olds with it, and a typical presentation of 20-somethings stressed out at university. One episode of shingles does not guarantee any immunity. The rash usually occurs along a dermatome (follows the path of a nerve on one side) and typically on the trunk. Your rash is infectious to someone never exposed to the herpes zoster virus before (very young, for example). The treatment seems appropriate. The worst sequelae are permanent nerve damage where you can develop neuropathic pain, like a permanent toothache at the site of the rash. The antivirals help if started within 72 hours of appearance of the rash. As an aside, your doctor should have gone over all of this, even without you having to ask her.

I haven't had it - but the pain you feel is known as post herpetic neuralgia - its the nerves that you feel the pain in

shingles comes from the varicella zoster virus - which you first get in the form of chicken pox- usually after an episode of chicken pox your immune system overcomes chickenpox but sometimes, at a later date, the virus then reactivates as shingles

there can be various episodes, no pain etc it is commonly thought that shingles happens in the elderly or people who are run down.

therefore all you can really do is rest and make sure you are eating healthily

also remember that the rash is contagious if someone touches the actual blisters ( not that they would!) they can catch chicken pox if they have not had it before

I have had shingles It was horrible. It last about two weeks. You cannot give anyone else shingles but you can give them chicken pox. They are both caused by the same virus and no one gets shingles until after they have had chicken pox.

takes anywhere from a week to a month or two. if you are in a lot of pain, you may want a second opinion - as shingles can occasionally cause nerve damage. a good website for info is dermnet new zealand - google it. just dont go looking around too much in there - you'll get a bad case of the heebie-jeebies:)

Shingles is caused by the same virus as the chicken pox one so I guess the incubation period is two weeks just like chicken pox. I can only sympathise my son had it when he was six years old and he was in a lot of pain.

Cold sores are caused by the herpes virus. Many of us already have the cold sore virus dormant in our bodies, and never have a flare up of cold sores. We contracted it as children, as it is a very common virus, and children pick it up easily as they often share food and drinks, and may be less concerned about hand washing and hygiene. Cold sores can be transmitted even when the person does not have a cold sore, though it is less likely to happen then.

remember that you can remove genital warts by surgery, freezing, laser, acid or cream but genital warts can reappear again and again because genital warts appears when your immune system is weak!

I got diagnosed with herpes type 2 about seven years ago, when I was still in college and had a stupid one-night stand. However, Not only was I able to remove all traces of the herpes virus from my system in less than three weeks, but I was also able to start dating again!

I had it several years ago, running aroung my rib cage. Very painful and lasted a few weeks.

I had to go and get an injection every day for a couple of weeks.
