My friend recently broke up with her long term boyfriend, and has NEVER exercised before... Suddenly, she is eating 1000-1200 calories a day and running 10 miles a day, no joke. It's really scaring me alot, and she insists that everything's fine, that she'll stop this after school starts... but when I suggested that she eat 1700 calories at least, to up her metabolism, she was horrified and told me that it was too high. She was originally 5'4", 120 lbs, and in about 3 weeks has become 108 lbs... She's distressed that she can't go any lower... She's still EATING... but very little, and she's very proud of her "accomplishment"... I've told her that she'll just gain it back if she loses it like this, etc etc used metabolism to scare her... but she's not listening... Please help!

Inform your friend that dieting like this can have severe and permanent effects on her stomach and digestive track such as shrunken stomach, bleeding ulcers, ruptured intestines, etc. and that a proper diet should include controlled eating of 3 meals a day and moderate exercise.

Absolutly u can help her...be there to support anyway she needs it. She needs a friend now more then ever. If she feels she has to look good for other guys to like tell her she is at a fine weight and losign some weight is fine but all in moderation. She should be takign in about 2000 calories with the way she is working out. Try telling her instead of her running eveyrday for that length tell u u will go for a jog or a walk with her instead.

You know, your friend is eating a fine amount of calories IF she wasn't running so much. You need more calories if you want to exersise that much.
Is there a way you can get her to cut down on the running? 10 miles is a lot. Remind her that she doesn't want to look like Nicole Richie.

You should at least eat 2,000 calories a day try to get her to eat more. Don't tell she looks great that encourages her.
