I'm not from Florida, I am from Texas but I feel the importance of learning Hispanic culture is the same here as there. It is important because Hispanics are the quickest growing ethnic group in the nation. It won't be too long before the US is 50% Hispanic and so now their heritage is becoming entwined with our own. Here in Texas you can't go to many towns who don't have a place to buy tacos! Even Pepsi is now Pepsi Si and then there is also Sierra Mist. And take a look around when you go out. I bet you will see many Latin influenced buildings. For the next few days, everywhere you go, look around at the stuff you usually take for granted and see if it has Hispanic roots.

I used to live in Miami, I hope I count.
What has happened in Miami Dade County is a smaller version of what is now happening in the entire USA. An immigrant population has adapted, and thrived there. They have changed, but more important, they have changed their new homeland. Understanding how the Cuban people have been successful in Florida should help other newcomers learn to be successful. Studying how Florida has thrived through change should help government in other areas of the US see how they too can thrive through change, as Latinos and Asians and other peoples come to their states.
