The United States, in an effort to reduce the number of looses we would have if we made a beach landing on the home island of Japan, dropped two bombs. After the first one, Japan didn't budge and ignored requests to surrender. Once the second bomb was dropped, the surrender was unconditional.

We are the only nation to let the genie out of the bottle, but compared to the lives saved, made a difference. It was estimated that about 2 million people would have died on our side had we landed in Japan. The numbers of Japanese would have been at least 10 times higher. As it is, two cities were destroyed, lives lost and even though America is looked at in a bad light for doing it, LIVES were saved and shortened the war considerably.

Hey, Thomas has an avatar that looks almost exactly like mine. (Except I have the funny little grimace!!!)

The U.S. dropped nuclear weapons on Bikini Atoll, but first they moved the Micronesian inhabitants away.

The U.S. dropped nuclear weapons on Japan at the end of World War II, destroying the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. That has had a powerful effect on Japanese art and culture, and anime is substantially based on these effects.

There have been other accidents involving radiation, such as the Three Mile Island nuclear plant in the U.S. and the Chernobyl nuclear plant in the Soviet Union.

In the history of the world only one nation, alone, has ever nuked another country and you're living in it. Without warning, we nuked two cities in Japan. Of course, not many people knew the horrors that would be unleashed. I've always liked to think that, if the people had known the consequences of their govenrments proposed actions, we would have found another way to end the war. That was some BAD karma! The sins of the father...etc.

And they were not hydrogen bombs. They were only atomic bombs and were very low yield by todays standards.

On August 6, 1945 the United States Army Air Forces dropped the nuclear weapon "Little Boy" on the city of Hiroshima, followed three days later by the detonation of the "Fat Man" bomb over Nagasaki, Japan.

The Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombs were the only ones ever employed as weapons.
