I have noticed that I get disconnected from the internet if I am away from the computer for a while, now is it something to do with Tiscali,as in idle connection, that they disconnect you? As I have been through all of my settings, and everything is fine, as you get a ip address that takes you to a webpage that allows you to customize all your settings, that is also fine, I keep on having to unplug my router/modem, and wait for it to intialise so that I have my internet connection again, does anyone else have problems with this or is it just me????

Hi,
I'm also with Tiscali and also suffer occasionally from a drop connection. I am on a standard modem not wireless so possibly not a problem with your modem/router.
Cheers

And heres another Tiscali user!! I've recently noticed my internet is being disconnected after a short while of being idle to. I'm not a wireless user just straight forward broadband.

Come on Tiscali!...What is going on!!!!

I just changed about 2 months ago from BT. My download max speed has nearly doubled as Tiscali must have a better ratio of broadband width and users compared to BT. I also use p2p. It is unlimited at £17.99/month. I would say go for it. The fair use policy only applies between the hours of 6pm and 11pm. I use utorrent and restrict my download between these times. By the way the service is excellent. The only problem I have had is I was without my broadband for 2 days. Another point worth mentioning is some of my friends have BT, AOL and Wanadoo they now wants to change to Tiscali. Unfortunately only one can as the rest have at least 6 months left on there contracts.

AOL used to do this many years ago. Prevents you from tying up their service in an idle state. Does a box come up asking you if you want to stay on-line? Do you lose the connection if you open and work through that... such as a word document while on-line? Do you go to screen saver when you drop?

It is an ISP thing. My old one use to do that after I was online in my mail box or on the web.

Go to tools/option/ connection/ look for a box that will let you extend you time out time. I believe you have to slide the slider all the way to right.

Try that. If you OE you can avoid all of this

i have the same problem with aol using the same equipment except i cannot log back on for a few hours i think the problem is something to do with extension sockets. if you remove the front cover of your master socket you will find a test socket inside if you plug your filter directly into that you will find you will not lose your connection. i am not sure why this is i am hoping someone comes up with the answer...........

I'm not familiar with your router however somewhere in it's configuration (LAN settings ATM / PVC) there will be something called idle time. (My 3Com router is set to 20 minutes) Whereby the connection is dropped if the period if inactivity exceeds the idle time.
