There are two kinds of people in the world-- those who want to divide the world into two kinds and those who don't.

Realism is commonly defined as a concern for fact or reality and a rejection of the impractical and visionary.

Idealism is an approach to philosophical enquiry which asserts that everything is of a mental nature. Either asserting that only minds and the objects of mind exist, or that everything is composed of mental realities (e.g., thoughts, feelings, ideas, or will).

The fine line that divides Idealists from Realists is that Realists often look for justification or proof thus taking a very practical approach whereas Idealists may or may not require a very conclusive justification as long as any mental realities have a common ground or basis for acceptance.

Simply putting Men are generally more driven by Rational aspects of life while Women are generally more driven by Emotional (thoughts, feelings, ideas, or will) aspects of life.

I strongly believe that is the reason why most children look for strength and indepence from their Father and for love, caring, comfort seek their Mother.

An "idealist" looks at things as the way they think they should be.
A realist looks at things as they are. Realists will look at fact and history to come to conclusions and an Idealist will come to the conclusions they preffer. An Idealist often thinks he is a Realist and supports his conclusion to himself via faulty facts and acounts of events that support his preconcieved notion, while ignoring the facts that contradict it.

Realistically men are aware most women won't swallow.
Women being idealist will try to back off before he blows because even though he said he won't they know he's going to give it a shot in case it musses her hair or drips on her blouse.

I think that the difference between the two has to deal with the fact that women, more often than me, think with their hearts and tend to follow their emotions. Men, on the other hand, look at the situation as it is without allowing how they feel interfere with what they'll eventually decide to do.

This must be another mars and venus thing. It suggests that men are practical and active in dealing with the world and women are whimsical and emotional in dealing with the world. Not certain that has held true since the huntering gathering phase of our development.

Basically, men are more realistic while women are more emotional and dreamers. Men depend on logic and reason to make decisions while women depend on emotion and feeling. That's what it means in a nutshell.

Someone described the difference between men and women to me once as simply this. Men lie, women change their mind.

I think it's mostly the other way around.

Realist - One who is inclined to literal truth and pragmatism

Idealist - One who is unrealistic and impractical; a visionary.
