No No No! I have a 5,500 gallon above ground pool. What you need is Algecide, and use more than one bag of shock. I use 13 Oz. of algecide liquid in my pool every week, and I shock it with 3 one lb bags every 2 weeks. I have only had to deal with algae once when I forgot to add the algecide. You have to remember that every time it rains it affects your water. Also keep your PH and Alkalinity levels balanced and change your filter once a week. Be sure to vacum and brush down your pool at least twice a week. Hope this helps.

actually if the surface of the plastic is bad, the best thing to do is throw it away.
plastic pools/liners do not hold chemistry well at all. many folks don't understand the difference between plastic and concrete...
if your pool has had an issue before with slime and algae buildup, the surface is damaged....throw it away and purchase another and be sure next time to run your pump at least 8 hours a day if not more.
good luck.

Your best bet is to ask around your area and find a good company with a good reputation. More than likely after hearing your troubles they will give you some advice. It does sounf like you need more treatments. Also I would consider a bigger filter to deal with whatever is making the slime grow.

Yes put more chlorine in until you can smell it in the water. Or do one of those test strips to tell you exactly how much chlorine is in the pool. But the theory is that if anything can grow in the pool water then more chlorine is needed to kill it.

You are truly one Dumb SOB
how long have you had the pool????
Surely you should know that you have to clean it on a regular basis, and that the heat of the day will promote more algae growth.
Your filter needs to be cleaned out from time to time and it should run on a regular basis
No wonder your filter wont circulate the water very well.
