Or have you already? I'm considering a trip to visit the home country of my parents since I've never been. I was born and raised in the US. My only concern is that the trip will be a disappointment or a bit without meaning.

How was it for you? How old were you when you took the trip?

I would like to. And yes I know what you mean about disappointments so I think it is a good idea not to romanticize a place and realize that is has probably been built up and more industrialized than it once was, so it could still be a nice trip. To visit my homelands would be: Scotland, France, and Warsaw, Poland. The other homeland is right here inthe U.S. (Seneca Indian, lol)

My mother is 100% German, my father is of German ancestry.
I lived in Germany as a youngster, and I visited again in 1995.
It was a wonderful experience, Germany is a beautiful country.
They have enchanting castles dotting the countryside, beautiful Gothic cathedrals, the gorgeous Rhine River valley, the equally gorgeous Black Forest, excellent wine and beer, and the people are very friendly and accommodating.
It brought back memories I didn't even realize I had.
I would recommend a visit to your ancestral homeland to anybody, regardless of where it is. There is always something to learn from that experience.

What a nice idea! I think you should go. You probably remember them talking about different places that you could visit. I don't have that luxury. My family has been here, on both sides since the early 1700's and that has been lost to myself and my siblings. I am envious of folks who are closer to their ethnic traditions. We have very few. Go, and have a great time. Bon Voyage!!!
