Yes, when will this interfering government stop hounding law abiding citizens and started clamping down hard on criminals and scumbags in the UK? I guess the law abiding people are the sitting ducks !
I TOTALLY AGREE WITH PAUL M.

These things don't bother me so much as the blatant unfairness of the benefit system and social security system, where people who come from abroad seeking asylum get given all sorts of benefits, while decent working people who get down on their luck get nothing!
A working family who lose their home through mortgage repossession because the dad lost his job or was unable to work for a while can be accused of being "intentionally homeless" and left to languish in a B & B while asylum seekers and 16 year old mothers get accommodation all paid for!!! It stinks!
Plus the police are inept and allow thugs to rule our streets. Everyone is too PC to deal with the cause of any problem. Pakistani youths beat up a white boy and nothing gets done but white boys beat up a Pakistani youth and its an uproar. This is a blatant double standard on behalf of the police.
These things p*ss me off far more than not being able to drink outdoors or protest outside Parliament to be honest.
Oh and Andy - as for not "bearing arms", thats a good thing. Do you really think we want the sort of out-of-control gun crime you have in the US, where any inbred redneck can walk into a shop and buy a lethal weapon as easily as he can buy a McDonalds? Terrifying!!
What do we need to "bear arms" for anyway - there are no marauding apache tribes or bears and wolves in the UK you know! Guns would just be used to settle personal/domestic disputes (resulting in tragic deaths) and by criminals to kill innocent people. It really sucks that any moron can wave a gun around in your country. Thats why so many Americans are victims of gun crime every year.
And we don't need a "constitution", we have laws, what difference is there? At least we don't have to PAY when we're sick and need to see the doctor!!!!

Actually I think that if u hav alcoholics in the streets then they might ne rude to others, be violent, or be disruptive. You're not allowed to protest right outside parliament in case someone tries to blow it up (probably Mr Bush), but you can protest near enough to have your voice heard. Also if a protest is supported by enough people for it to make a difference in a democratic country, then it will be noticed, no matter where it is. I think that we should work against tax evasion, and we should work against littering to make our towns nicer places. Even though some Americans may think we have stupid laws, there are plenty of laws in the US which we do not agree with and we may think are stupid.

No, I'm not happy at all, that while the government is busy legislating this country into Nineteen Eighty Four, they are quite happily stoking the fires of future wars, just to ensure that they can stay in power by invoking a State of National Emergency each time their popularity flags, just to make sure that their stay in power is permanent.
Y'see, in order for a fascist dictatorship to stay in power and keep on going forever, they need a convenient external enemy to war against. If, by chance, the dictatorship accidentally eliminates that external threat, their only other option is to focus on an internal enemy, which leads to pogroms and denunciations and witch hunts - only it won't be witches they'll be hunting, it'll be Muslims and Blacks and Gays and the disabled.
And all they'll need to get the WASP able bodied population on their side would be to level a finger at the enemy of the day and yell "PAEDOPHILES!" and nobody'll lift a finger to stop the lynch mobs, let alone ask for evidence ...
Instead of a real enemy, of course, far better is to invent an enemy. Then the war effort, and therefore the government, can continue forever, because one can never eliminate a threat that only exists because the government says it exists ...
Ah. Sorry. I answered the question under wrong premises. You asked me "as a decent person". I'm hardly that ... >:)

This country has become a joke. It is bordering on a police state on petty issues. If you are British born and bred you are virtually persecuted into renouncing that fact. If you come from an ethnic minority it feels like the authorities will bend over backwards to do anything for you.
Given a few more years the numbers leaving this country will be greater than those coming in. Then those of us in no financial position to leave will ultimately become the minority group.
You can criticise America over alot of issues but they would never let the sovereignty of their country be put in doubt by the rantings and demands of immigrants whether they be there to work or the bunch free loading "asylum seekers" we seem to be getting here.

No. Our politicians should work positively to generate economic growth, to ensure that our wealth is fairly distributed and to provide good public services such as education and health (instead of rationing drugs and letting old people in hospital go malnourished for lack of nurses to feed them). Telling us not to do things is a way of courting cheap popularity because people do not realise till later the petty inconveniences it causes all over the place.

that drinking in town centres isn't a strict as you suggest, in fact neither is most the legislation you refer to. its designed to deal with anti-social behaviour.
how would you feel if you walked into the local beauty with a young kid spot only to see a large group of rowdy lads drinking?
or same scenario but you see someone has fly tipped their old washing machine?
or how about your tax goes up due to the amount of people not paying it (or their insurance for that matter)?
police are given discretion with these laws, and they are all there because some public pressure group demaded they be put in place. you need some perspective
