it's very simple actually.....appreciate the people around you....enjoy the sunshine and the wind and the rain......read a good book, play with a dog, watch the sunset, laugh and feel happy....look at children playing and laughing...just stop looking around and waiting for something big to happen which mightt make you happy...just enjoy the everyday seemingly trivial things and just enjoy your life.

Start by Defining what happy is for you.
Start Small and evaluate. There are some personality test you can try. Work on baby steps.
If you think you might be depressed see a professional.
Some people Define a relationship with God as happy. (There are millions of people who don't have it and are happy) There are millions of people who say they do and don't.
Do you like being organized? Get organized
I have a few friends who smoke, they think it makes them happy, but really it just gives them a hit and the float till the next hit. Find internal happiness and the need/desire for external sources become moot

happiness depends upon your "vibrational level" and consciousness level ,as well. at a certain point in development externals become irrelevant. and, short of being physically abused you can remain "untriggered", calm and relaxed under pretty much all circumstances. how to get there? a lot of meditation and "energy work": tai chi, reiki, chi gung, yoga are key ingredients, along with regular exercise, etc. check out http://www.sahajayoga.co and the book *the complete idiot"sguide to toltec wisdom*. what happens is your whole being relaxes under the influence of practicing the above mentioned. when you're very relaxed, and your internal energy system is operating properly, your mind becomes very calm and you understand humans and life better. that leads to a state where what they do, and what happens "out there", generally, is much less of a "problem". good luck! ;-)

Try to focus on making other people happy by helping them, especially secretly. It is so fun! Count your blessings. Read the Bible. Whether or not you believe in God, there is a lot of ancient wisdom in it, especially Proverbs. Treat other people the way you would want to be treated is one of them. God bless.

When you remove every stress from your nervous system you will feel a sense of happiness. How to do that? That's another story.
