I am sick of this "war on terror" phrase, we aren't fighting terror, if we were, how come there are still school bullies running around and they aren't in guantanamo bay? Aren't school bullies terrorists, don't they use terror tactics to create fear in other kids so they could do as they wish? What about people who steal from stores armed with a weapon, that's only a crime and not classified as terror, when indeed they are using terror to create fear to easily attain what they want.

The war on terror is called so because it is a global fight against guerilla groups who use guerilla tactics aimed at demoralizing and destroying civilian lives. No one in their right mind would openly state that they support these organizations as it is in direct violation of the Geneva Convention. So secretly, governments support these groups and use them as an ends to achieve their means.
Bullies in school do the same thing but instead of the federal government supporting them, it is usually the teachers, principals, and coaches. Most bullies are jocks or rich kids who pick on the poor kids. Columbine was mentioned. Think about who did the shooting, not super rich kids, not athletes, rather outcasts who found the only way to stand up for themself was to do what they did. Don't get me wrong, what they did was inhuman, but they had no voice against the people who terrorized them, even when they asked their teachers for help.

I think there's some confusion as to what constitutes an act of terror. Every speech I hear from the president eventually comes down to this 'war on terror', but I can't really look at him and believe that he is not the bigger threat. I guess it's only terror if the one inflicting it is not on your side. I don't think it's a subject that can ever really be understood and I doubt having an answer would be enough to end it.

The war on terror cannot be a physical war. There is no way that guns and ammunition can win that war. It's a war of belief systems. It can only be won by a change in what people believe. Anything else is a waste of time and money Utterly useless.

The problem with the USA is that the society itself is violent. In Florida people can shoot each other legally! The defense budget is huge!!! Think about your history, decades of disciminating blacks, in the south some people discriminate gay people or others... And what you say about bullies: since the government keeps talking about invading other countries and fighting this and that, which is basically a form of violence, don't you think kids will immitate what they hear and see on TV and try to dominate others through violence?? Try to see Bowling for Columbine: in my opinion, the best movie on the matter.
