I have a vague recollection that it ran through the HP laser jet printer but cannot remember why

it goes in the second port on your laser pinter at the side of the cable from the computer to the printer or if you have a second port on the scanner the printer plugs in that the cable from the computer then plugs in the scanner

Look on the HP site. More than likely they have manuals you can download. I had a canon scanner and honestly even though it was a good scanner there was no instruction manual for using it. EG: how to scan and use the various setting. It was all trial and error. I certaintly hope HP has a better set up.
