I am Taiwanese. I am studying English now. And there is a word"police office"appearing in my text book. It means the place where the policemen work in. But a foreigner teacher in my school said the word" police office"is wrong. He says he has never seen this word,also he corrects the word into"police station". I have looked up the dictionaries of English version, yet I haven't found the word "police office",only "police station". However, the government in Taiwan uses the word "police office". In additio,is the word"police office"the right way to use in English? I would like to know the correctest usage. Thank you a lot!

"Police Station" is the traditional use in America. But, if you do say "Police Office" an American will understand you, but might assume you mean that you want the offices where the police do their paperwork. Basically, a civilian goes to a police station, but a mayor would visit the poilice office to talk to the chief of police.

Police Station is the building where the police are located. Within the station, there are offices where groups or individuals work.
I would say the in the US of A most of us refer to the place the police hang out as Police Station.

Oscar: Police Stations open 24 hours a day. Some quieter areas have in fact got some smaller 'Police Offices' which are not open 24/7, but during local shopping hours etc.
Among most Police Officers, Police Offices are frowned upon.

I think all this confusion might be caused by yourself reading 'Police Office' where it might have said 'Police Officer', with an R at the end you see. 'Police Officer' is a perfectly common way to refer to what Americans call a cop. A single policeman, then. The place they work at however, is indeed called a police station.

I have never heard of a police office, but there are plenty of police stations in England
There is a police officer or Police man/woman, which may be were your getting mixed up.

I live in the UK, and "police office" is not correct, although a person could work out what you meant from that.
A much better way of saying it would be "police station".
A slang term (which everyone would also understand) is "cop shop".

Police Station is the usual American way of referring where the Police house their facilities.
In the the UK it is called Scotland Yard, go figure.

I would say police station. I have never heard anyone say police office.
