I cannot get onto the internet with my new hp laptop. It does have wifi and lan capabilities. I don't know if this could be why, but awhile back my system crashed, I reinstalled all the drivers and everything. I need help, I'm not very computer smart! If you have any questions about anything I will try to answer. Thanks!

it doesn't even work if it's plugged in to an ethernet line.

Need a lot more information.....

If you are using it wired, then you plug your modem into the lan jack (rj45) & it will work just like a desktop after you set up an internet connection.

If you have a desktop that is wired to a wireless router, then you need to run the CD for the wireless router to set it up. For security you will want to use like 124 bit encryption. It will ask you for a word to paraphrase (type any word in there) & it will then turn it into a key code (using hex) for you (make sure you print it out). When you browse for wireless services in your area (there maybe more then just yours) click on yours to connect, it will ask for the key code, type it in & you are good to go.

Laptop wireless connection detects the network automatically .. However sometimes there are some configurations. For example you can find an option says turn on automatic detection when computer startup

You didn't mention if you contacted your ISP for internet connectivity support. Most ISPs have a toll free number and customer support to check connections, etc.

does your wireless router has a security feature turned on? you might need to get your network security key or reconfigure your router. (before you do this, check to see if your router is in your list of wireless connections)
