No; they could only succeed in legislating us into Nineteen Eighty Four.
That doesn't stop them from trying. In their hubris, they really believe they're doing what they're doing for our own good.
They say, on one hand, that we're a good society at heart, but that we're all falling by the wayside and need guidance. On the othe rhand, they distrust us all so much, they're willing to turn the whole country into an armed camp, with the police aiming their guns and speed cameras directly at the citizens they have sworn to protect.
Hubris. It's all hubris. And the joke is, all of the parties are exactly the same. It's because we don't elect the morons in the Home Office who are behind all of this progressive bureaucratic strangulation of the rights of British Man. Come rain or whine, Tory or Tiny Blur, it's the same mandarins, year in, year out, who sit in their Ivory Tower, and plan for the day when the trains will, once again, run on time, and everyone will be happy.
Even if we all have to have the muzzle of a shotgun in the small of our backs to remind us of how happy we are supposed to be.

Broken eggs everywhere but the omelet is yet to be seen. Every attempt to create a perfect society has resulted in death and destruction. Starving people worse off than before.
If you do acheive a perfect society, wouldn't you have to freeze it allow no change or dissent. After all you can't improve perfection. Suggest you read Any Rand's Anthem. Its about a perfect society.
"Out of the crooked timber of humanity nothing straight was ever made".

Don't be silly!
If we were the perfect society everybody would be happy with the Government, and however well they are doing this at least is manifestly not the case with the Blair Government.

No, rather the other way round. They know decent, hard working, law-abiding don't need lots of rules, but the charlatans and feckless disobey them anyway. It's just a way of trying to penalise the first group whilst making no impression on the latter.

Not that all mexicans are like this but the mexican culture is a more polite one where the laws are more self governed then goverment governed and they are all technicalities.

I'd like to say no, but they are doing a pretty good job of it so far, and getting away with it.

Well as they have consistently made matters worse since they came to power it seems pretty unlikely.
