I'm looking more towards plants than vegetables but any books you may be able to suggest would be helpful. Thanks!

I would recommend something that has flora and fauna from your region, something locally written.

Others I recommend are the American Hort Society A-Z Encyclopedia of Gardening, Michael Dirr's Woody Plants, Steven Stills Manual of Herbaceous Ornamental Plants... but it depends on what you are interested in! I do like Dr. Hessayon's series! These are great books with a lot of plants and good details on them.

There are books on gardening with color, gardening with texture, English gardens, organic gardens, so many to choose from.

The Sunset Western Garden Book is a good general resource if you live in the western United States. It covers trees, shrubs, flowers, vegetables, etc.

It has basic information about gardening and taking care of plants and an encyclopedia-like section in the back that includes a drawing of each plant and lists its common and Latin name, care and growth patterns, and climate zones where it will thrive.

The web site has seasonal articles too.

Anything in the "Expert" series by Dr. D.G. Hessayon. Small books but crammed with useful information.
