The situation would be that we would have trouble representing numbers in radix form. This is the ONLY importance of zero. We could have used another place-holder instead of 0. If we decided to use the character @ then we would write 100 as 1@@ in base 10. We could write 10 as 1@ in base 2. Get the idea?
By the way, it is untrue that you would need an infinite number of symbols as someone responded.
It's only importance is as a placeholder. Nothing else.

I have no idea what you mean by "without any figure." I assume you mean the representation of nothingness. "Three" has a figure because I can put three severed fingers on a ice tray and count 1, 2, 3. It's hard to count when they aren't there.
As for the importance, that's easy: start counting.

Without zero as a placeholder (for our decimal numeration system), you would need either an infinite number of symbols (to represent the infinite number of counting numbers), or some type of numbering system that relies on a finite number of symbols. There have been zero-lees numeration systems (see: Roman Numerals), but eventually, zero was used to indicate the absence of a specific place value.
Besides, you you rather find $10 or $10,000? The only difference is a few zeroes...

As far as I understand, Zero without any figure is a philosophic matter, and can be found in
- The "nothingness" of the universe (Buddhism)
- Zero defect policy (Quality management)
- Zero waste (manufacturing management)
and so on....

It's hard to explain why that's important, but if you ever read anything on quantum physics, it's pretty fundamental that you have a value that can define when there is nothing.

I can think of two things....
NULL and ZERO. Null is absence of any value. Zero is actually a value of zero.
It is one thing to say the value is not defined... it is quite another to say the value is zero.
