my 6 week old son has a thick coating on his tongue, its white of course, but he is a bottle fed baby well at least for the last 4 weeks. we have changed to soy formula about a week and a half ago because he was totally inconsolable and very moody/gassy. i seemed to wipe some of it off last night, but there seem to be tiny little patches in his mouth, like in the sorners of his lips.

That is 100% thrush. Get him to a doc ASAP. That stuff hurts his mouth and soon he will stop wanting feed all together. Both my daughters have had it. The doc give you medicine that you have to squirt on the infected area. Your son will not like it, but he needs it.

If it can't be wiped away then it is thrush. My 6 week old had it, we tried the nystatin rx for almost 4 weeks, no luck, then tried Diflucan and it cleared up in like 3 days. Some doctors think it is best to leave it alone and clear up on its own as long as it doesn't interfer with the baby's eating. I'm glad we tried the Diflucan.

Oral thrush is an infection of yeast fungus. Very common in newborn babies because their immune system is low & they haven't been exposed to enough things for them to build up resistence. One extremely easy way to tell if its thrush is to take a warm washcloth or guaze and see if the white comes off easily. Thrush won't & If you scrape off these spots, they leave small wounds that bleed slightly. Its important to seek a doctors attention if you suspect the baby of having thrush since they need an antifungal medication to get rid of it....a popular one is Nystatin. Very simple to administer, you just wipe it on the areas a few times a day and should see an improvement in a day or two. Hope this helps!

It could be a common and harmless yeast infection known as thrush. Thrush looks like cottage cheese or milk curds on the sides, roof, and sometimes the tongue of a baby's mouth. It's most common in babies 2 months and younger, but it can appear in older babies, too

yea its definately thrush....my son had that when i switched him to the bottle...his doc said formula wont do that...she gave me a perscription for it and told me its from not sterlizing the bottles and nipples after each use. well i didnt give him the perscription and i sterlized the bottles after every few uses (i always soaked them in very hot water before i washed them anyways) and i switched his water. thats all it was...the water. just goes to show how dirty city water is. pretty bad when it makes your baby sick....so just try boiling water or buying water from the store in the gallon jugs....it will prolly clear up with in a week or two...if not let his doc know

it is thrush. when my son had it nystain didn't work for him. My mother who is an LVN told me to buy one of those yogurt drinks and dilute it down. 1/4 yogurt to 3/4 water. It worked wonders. My sister asked the pharmcist for something over the counter with her son. It worked well too. Good luck

Without being able to see it and be more certain it sounds like thrush. The Dr. will need to prescribe you something like oral Nystatin.

it sounds like its both, the stuff that wiped off is formula and if it says on then it is thrush. you need to make sure you clean the nipples VERY WELL, boil them every night, everytime you clean them. that's the only way to make sure that your son doesn't get it back. you also need to take him to the doctor so that they can give you a antibiotic.

ask the dr. but it sounds like thrush. its just a bacteria that forms and it is patcjy in their mouths but medicine will take it away. make sure he doesnt grab other childrens bottles, it can be passed that way.

It's thrush. Take the little one to the pediatrician. This could be the reason why he has been gassy too...
Good luck!
