The only way to get an answer for your question is for you to listen to him. No words can describe his greatness!

I saw his last gig at the isle of wight festie. He was good for anyone else but was not good for Jimi Hendrix. I have since seen the film of this festie and Jimi was off his head on speed. Chewing his face off and telling all his worst enemies his most personal secrets, Amphetamine sulphate to the max. But that is not to deny his undoubted genius. He died as a result of chocking on vomit in his sleep after a barbiturates and booze binge. A great loss. I miss him still after 36 years, thinking of what he could have done for music. I hope he is up there at the great gig in the sky with Bird and Satchmo on horns. Jaco Pastorious on bass, Baby Dodds on drums and Ella and Ma Rainey on vocals. Now THAT is a lineup!

I don't think we will ever know that question...I doubt we saw his full potential..dying as he did prematurely and on the cusp of moving in a different musical phase of his life (jazz/rock fusion). What he did leave behind is a free spirit approach to his instrument that many thousands continue to be influenced by. He inspired a whole generation to shake off their musical limitation and 'go for it'. Guitarist in every generation have treated his ability and vision with the highest respect and accolade..and every beginner seeks to imitate his playing at some point..before realising how far they have to go! His unique and unlimmited potential will still be significant as long as we are still able listen to it.

Too great for this world. One of the few artists I'll carry with me forever. I discovered him in 1991 when I was 15 and his stuff still blows me away. I listened to Electric Ladyland not so long ago after a long absence and it's sublime. Incredible songs. Not tracks from a cd but SONGS. When I see young kids today wearing t shirts with his image I think... nice one Jimi. Mission accomplished!

If he were still alive today? Oh but to live in that alternate universe!

RIP

Amazing, I like to think he stopped here on Earth for a short while to inspire us then continue on his journey through space. I don't think by any stretch that he was merely human.
