Try brushing your tongue along with your teeth next time. You can also try using a tongue scraper (you can find these at Walmart or a drug store in the toothpaste isle). This will remove any coating caused by the cigarettes. That's what I do- I'm a smoker too. I can taste food just fine.

Smoking does alter the tastes. All ex-smokers will tell you how much better food tastes after they stop smoking.

Smoking kills your taste buds and effects how you taste food. When I quit smoking I couldn't believe how good food tasted once my body got rid of all the left over tar and nicotine. Probably why people gain wight when they quit smoking.
