If by "e" you mean Internet Explorer, you can't. The "e" is not really an icon like most of the others. It is the actual file that runs Internet Explorer. One way to tell is that icon have a little arrow in the lower left hand corner. Files and other special objects do not. You can not move a file or special object to the start menu. Only an icon.
But, if you are trying to get the "e" off your desktop, there is a way to do that. Right click on the desktop and select properties. Click on the Desktop tab. Click on the Customize Desktop button. You will see check boxes that let you turn on and off the special objects like Internet Explorer. Just uncheck, and it is gone.
Or, if you want to get rid of EVERYTHING and you are using Windows XP, right-click on the Desktop. Select Arrange Icons by... Uncheck where it says Show Desktop Icons. Bye-bye to everything. (Recheck to get them back)

Right click the task bar. Then click lock taskbar-to uncheck it, making it "unlocked". Start moving icons then go back and lock it when finished! IT WORKS!
