You get a lawyer who specializes in trademarks and copyrights. And I agree, why do those idiots think it's illegal? Copyrighting- legal; infringing on a copyright- illegal

First, it's copyright, not copy wright. Once you finish it, you own the copyright. However, that may be difficult to prove in court. You should gather your collection of songs and send them to the US Copyright office (assuming you live in the US). For about $35 it's yours, and you can prove it.

A lot of people say mail it to yourself, but that still won't hold up in court.

For more info, go to www.copyright.gov/

If you wrote a song and want to know how to copyright it, it's simple. When you finish writing the song, you own the copyright. Simply put the lyrics on a piece of paper and mail it to yourself via the post office. Do no open it. That way you have time stamped proof of your original lyrics if it ever went to court.

First, you learn how to spell copyright. Then you find out what copyright means.

Any why do those two silly twits above me think that copyrighting is illegal? They also need to find out what it means.

ditto (michaelyoung), its yours as soon as you "commit it to a media" (written or recorded).

A good way to protect your interest is to register it with the copyright office. Maybe this will help you.

I think you take it to the Secretary of State and tell them that you want to Copyright something. (I think that's what my mom said to me).
