Here is a short (half-page essay) entry in my blog:

It will take you a half-minute to read. Please read it before giving anyone your reply to this ages old question.

You people answering half-full or half-empty aren't actually taking the time to read the short essay, are you? No container is ever anything but completely full.

Sorry, all that has to be done is to rephrase the question." Is this container either half full or half empty of liquid?"

God this question is so simple. You went way too deep man. If the glass is empty...and I fill it 1/2 way with water then it is half FULL. If I fill it all the way up with water.....then dump half out..then it is half EMPTY.

I mean your take is totally correct....the whole air thing and all. But a layman would not want to hear that. That is why I stick to my answer.

I agree with the poster before me. It is better to be half full, than half empty.

Who cares as long as there is something in the glass in the first place?
Half is better than nothing.
