A celebrity is a person who is widely recognized (famous) in a society and commands a high degree of public and media attention. The word stems from the Latin celebritas, itself from the adjective celeber meaning 'famous, celebrated'. While fame is generally considered to be the major prerequisite for celebrity status, it is not always sufficient. There has to be a level of public interest in the person which may or may not be connected to the reason they are famous. For example, a public figure such as a politician, industry leader etc. may be famous but not a celebrity unless something else triggers public and mass media interest Other types of fame, particularly those connected with mass entertainment are almost guaranteed to lead to celebrity even if the person deliberately avoids media attention. Examples of these are performers such as actors and musicians and athletes.

In the old days people who could speak really well to crowds, or play an instrument especially well practiced their art so much that they didn't have time for much of anything else. They certainly didn't have time to entertain or dally with the opposite sex. As a result they became known as celebits (abstainers from sex).
In England they developed the microphone and recording equipment to a super level for the recording and reproduction of sound from speeches, songs, and instrumental music. The "brits" became so good at that business that the artists the brits recorded became known as "celebrits." And, when you had a slender little thing of a "celebrit" that you really admired, she was naturally a "celebrity."
It didn't take long for the term "celebrity" to apply to just about anyone who stood in front of a mike or motion picture camera. These days anyone who can wiggle their tush in a suggestive manner, howl at the moon, or tie a guitar string in a figure eight knot can loosely be called a celebrity. Recent studies show that television news reporters and terrorists also qualify in that regard since they spend a lot of time in the camera's eye, or on the TV screen.
Special allowances have been made for such characters as Sponge Bob, Goofy, Fred Flintstone, and the like. I am not sure what kind of tush wiggle they employed to get in the running for celebrity, but it must have worked. And, in case you have not noticed, they are on TV quite a lot. On TV, you see, you almost have to take what you get.
So, in the future, do not follow every tush that wiggles at you, or stare at that exposed cleavage to long. There is a good chance that someone is running a stopwatch on you to see how many stare and for how long. 'Could be a celebrity in the making...

Celebrity from celebrate. You know what a celebration is--well, someone who's in the forefront in life get recognized and given some amount of creedence. Hence, movie actors are recognized and attention is given to them for better or for worse.

Famous or not so famous but they should have been talked about often in the media for anything done by him even when he is avoiding the attention. Celeber word means famous.
‘Celebutante’ is the new word for a mixture of celebrity and debutante (club kid?)
