My husband and I have raised bunches of baby squirrels. But we always release them back into the wild. They are happiest outside. They naturally range from 3 to 5 miles. A cage doesn't give them enough room. Besides, they pee and poop wherever they want, they chew on woodwork and they dig in the houseplants. They also store their food everywhere. We had to cut our couch open to get the last one out. That was one way to tell us it was time to start living outside.

A squirrel will never work as a pet. No new animals have been domesticated in the last 4000 years.

well, my grandfather had a pet squirrel, BUT, it was orphaned and was a newborn, you can't just go to the store and buy a squirrel, they are wild animals and should be treated as such. back to the story about my granfather, when the squirrel grew up, you could defenatly tell it was wild, jumping all over the house, tearing up furnature, and scratching people. SQUIRRELS ARE NOT GOOD PETS,PLEASE DO YOURSELF AND THE SQUIRRELS A FAVOR AND DO NOT KEEP ONE AS A PET!!!!

You would have to check with your state's department of environmental management to see if you can keep one. If so, some websites breed and there is a legal alternative in pet stores. It's called a "sugar glider" also nick named a "flying squirrel". They are much smaller and have an exotic diet which is hard for some. They become very dependent on their owners, so much so that some die from "lack of attention".....look them up.

NO. Squirrels are wild animals and should not be domesticated. Why on earth would you want to take a critter that is used to roaming freely all over the place and up and down tall trees and lock the poor thing up in a little confined cage?! .....besides they carry disease and their bite is bad.

There are Squirrels called Flying Squirrels from south america... Ratkateers Rodentry breed them. You have to buy them and have them shipped to you. It is best to have a VERY large inclosure. They get really bonded to there owner and run up and down you like a tree!

So why would you want a tree rat as a pet? Squirrels are very destructive and can and will both bite and scratch. Get your tetanus shots first.

Please don't get a squirrel as a pet. They are feral, wild animals. They like to climb trees and bury nuts. They belong in your yard, not in your house.

Not the best idea. Illegal in many states. Known to carry rabies.
Get a Ferret instead.
