Because they think it is a big deal, and they don't realize, nor do they care, or will they seek to find out, that the vast majority of America does not care. They are trying to rebuild the rapidly shrinking domain of prime time network news, and they can't stop the erosion of people away from it. They think that by creating some kind of "buzz" about a major non-happening like this, that they might be able to attract some new people to their broadcasts. About the only people they will get will be the Jerry Springer crowd, or some of the National Enquirer devotees, who will tune in for awhile, and maybe stay because they want to see what she is doing with her hair each day. She is just another empty talking head, and they threw her a crumb by setting up an interview with the President right away. I can't wait to start missing her telecasts, just the way I did her predecessor (Rather) and his competitors. Network news is all about the same old same old same old... and there are a lot more reliable outlets for what is really happening in the world.

They have to start slow and get everyone used to the idea of a female in a power position, then push it a little more and a little more until the time is just right.
