Anything by Neil Gaiman or Terry Pratchett.

Almost anything by Anne Bishop or David Eddings for pure escape reading.

History, psychology, and social science topics for nonfiction. Right now I'm reading Charles Freeman's 'The Closing of the Western Mind: The Rise of Faith and Fall of Reason'.

Try the triology of the Mayfair witches by Anne Rice, I have read it 3 times. Anybook, such as the Alienist by Caleb Carr , that draws you in , makes you visualize the characters and their surrounding is an excellent read.
