Is it better to purchase in advance online or to wait until I arrive? Who should I buy from? The venue or a ticket broker?

When you get to Vegas their is place that sells tickets next to the movie theater that sells them at reduced prices, sometimes half. They may not or may be the shows you are interested in.

You could go to the place right next to the MGM in the Showcase Mall called Tickets Tonight. They only sell tickets for day of and tickets can be up to half price. The only downside to this is they are normally less popular shows, you don't know what they have until that day, and they won't tell you over the phone you have to go in person.
Do not go through a ticket broker! They jack up the prices so much and they normally only have the best seats in the place hence not cheap. The only reason to do this is if you have your heart set on seeing one specific show that is sold out.
You could always check the magazines when you get here. Check the LVM or What's On. They have a few show coupons in there for discounted prices or even 2 for 1, but do not expect them to be the popular shows like O or Celine.
The best bet is this: call the concierge for the hotel you are going to stay at. They will do all the work for you and know where the good seats are. They know what's playing where. Trust me, I am a concierge!

Either well in advance from the website.. or directly from your hotel. Often times hotels will have special discounts to shows and the such. Especially if you are a gambler. I cant tell you how many free show tickets I have gotten just by asking for them. If you sign up for a players club card and gamble a little with it, you will have the free-bees coming before you know it.

Try to look for Chinese travel agent in China town Las Vegas. They might had better deal for the show tickets.

They sell them pretty cheap the day of the show but no guarantee it won't be sold out..The good shows are tough to book
