I work in a small office where there is a unisex bathroom. I opened the door to the bathroom and the worst smell came out of there. I turned around to the 10 or so people in the office and said, "Do NOT go in there!". A rather large woman in my office stood up, grabbed her purse and ran out of the office crying.

My boss is now considering whether or not I should remain at my job, I don't think it's right , what do you think?

I think you were immature and insensitive. I'm wondering if you did that intentionally when the other employee, whom you don't like, came out. You're hiding something.

It is very bad to go in behind a real stinker like that! They should have a hallway or screens between the restroom and the employees to save ppl from coming out and their odor permenting the others work areas! You could have not said anything and closed the door and went back later. I understand that you were trying to keep others from the smell and the lady was wrong to identify herself and get upset. Everybody does a stinky every now and again! It is natural and she way over reacted! Apologize to her even if you don't feel you need to. It may save you any further hassle. Ask the boss for a spray can to be installed to prevent this and also a wall or screen to be added!Best wishes!

Well, think about it....unless you're one of those people that don't care what others think; if it had been YOU in the bathroom last, and someone came out and said that in a very loud tone and embarrassed the heck out of you....how would you feel? Man it's called being considerate of other people's feelings! That was down right rude and uncalled for. But I don't believe it would be grounds for termination unless this is something you've done time and time again. It's not a sexual harassment issue but you really embarrassed and hurt someones feelings really bad.
Good luck

Could be If you wish to keep your "Dream Job" you might appoligize to the office as a whole saying that what you did was wrong and that you ask for everyone's forgiveness.

then enroll into a self awareness program plus a Feelings program to help yourself over this awful awful mess... hehe well actually the last here is a little to much. but doing the above might not be so bad...

Or yourself just go into that special room and let a good one fly maybe it could become a office contest of sorts....

Unfortunately you can be terminated on the grounds of making a hostile workplace. Good luck, You could play the stupidity card, and go on probation for a while, that is a good thing in this situation, again it all depends on your background with this employer and how far the woman affected wants to push it.

If you knew it was her who had made the smell and made the comment then the situation would be a bit worse. I dont think you have a real problem your boss just has to make sure that he looks like he didnt tolerate your actions so as long as you apologise to the woman you should be ok

Funny as it may be, it could probably get you in trouble. I don't think you should be fired for it, and I am not sure your employer would have a leg to stand on if he did. At most you should have to apologize, maybe take a few days off. It's not as if you had intended anything hurtful to anyone.

You were trying to be funny I am sure but ended up looking like an A$$ for being insensitive. If the boss wants to fire you....well that is his perogative.

You need to learn how to keep your insensitive comments and observations to yourself.

The person who ran out crying probably has Crohn's disease or something. You were way out of line.

You owe that person an apology.
