From where on your digi?
Lets assume it's the lens.. You dont want to scratch it, what you need to do is put vaseline, the less the better, cover the gum and surrounding area... Wait a few minutes, then gently buff with a paper towel.
It will take forever!!!! to buff out the remaining vaseline, but there is very little chance of scratching the lens and a good chance that the petro will dissolve the gum.
Good luck.

Put a small amount of peanut butter on a soft cloth or soft, paper
towel. Gently rub the peanut butter over the chewing gum. This solution is also effective for removing chewing gum from hair.

put an ice cube in a plastic bag & the put bag against the gum. It will freeze the gum & you will be able to pick it out. If you have any residue left, get a little bit of rubbing alcohol on a q-tip and rub it out.

Sigh,,, Knowledge is often acquired,,,AFTER,,,we need it.
No offense meant but assume how many keyboards are rendered useless by COKE...
If in fact the gum doesn't involve itself with the electronics, and perhaps only with the casing, there are methods you can use. Otherwise, I suggest taking it to someone knowledgable.
Be prepared to endure some modest critisism, but possibly a cure.
I'll analogize your situation,,, but mean no offense.
I went to the Doctor the other day. I mentioned that I had broken my arm in 3 places. He rubbed his chin, and wrote out a scrip. It said,,,"Stay out of those places"

Thoro dry cleaning fluid will remove gum. Just use a white cloth with the thoro on it and gently rub it on the gum. It works on clothing too.
